Some very wealthy, smart, and determined Americans oppose Democracy.
They see it as a means by which the poor can vote to confiscate the wealth of the rich through progressive taxation to underwrite social programs. For the past fifty years some of the richest, most powerful people in America have underwritten a program for the circumvention of Democracy. Major corporations have been involved as well. These efforts have been very effective. Our “democracy” is no longer producing programs that work for the majority of citizens and those programs that are in operation presently are under grave threat.
The story of this decline will be outlined in a series of short narratives organized to provide first the big picture and then increasingly detailed accounts with links to even greater detail for the more intrepid students among us. These narratives necessarily overlap somewhat but are numbered in order of increasing detail beginning with “Democracy Journey #1: The Short Story of Democracy’s Demise.”
